Significance of Pigs for the Celts
Pigs were very important animals for the Celts. We find a large number of boar figurines, which could symbolically bring their owner the characteristics of the animal – courage, strength, fighting spirit, as well as fertility. At the same time, we have evidence that pigs were intensively bred and their meat was very popular. This is evidenced by numerous findings of bones not only in settlements but also in graves, where sometimes a bowl with a pork ham and a cutting knife would be placed as food for the final journey.
