The Celts were the first in our region to use coins as currency. They were made of gold or silver, and their value was determined by their weight. Therefore, both manufacturers and merchants were equipped with bronze coin scales. The coins vary in size and designs—most commonly horses, boars, portraits of rulers, or impressions of shells.
