Basic Tour
Dear visitors, welcome to the Land of the Celts in Nasavrky. In front of you lies a reconstruction of a part of an oppidum, a fortified Celtic settlement. Oppida were built between 150 and 50 BC in strategic locations that were naturally well protected. The nearby site of Hradiště near České Lhotice is home to the only oppidum in Eastern Bohemia. It is situated halfway between the Bohemian and Moravian oppida. It was likely established as a safe station for trade caravans and also due to the extraction of mineral resources, especially iron. Due to their size and structure, oppida can be considered the first towns on our territory.
The Celts are the first people in our territory known to us by name. They appeared in the 5th century BC in a region that included the Bohemian Basin, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and eastern France. From there, they spread across much of Europe. The era of the Celts is known as the Late Iron Age or also the La Tène period.
The Celtic era ends shortly before the beginning of the Common Era, when Germanic tribes spread from the north, Romans from the south, and Dacians from the east. Some Celts remained in the area and were either killed or assimilated by the newcomers, while others abandoned their settlements and most likely moved west, where they lasted the longest in Brittany, Normandy and the British Isles.
